Past RNA President 93 year old Virginia Collins (Dara Abubakari). needs aassistance

This message was passed on to me from Elder Sis. Iyaluua Ferguson (wife of Baba Herman Ferguson)

I don't know if you know Virginia Collins (Dara Abubakari). She was a past president of the Republic of New Africa and a life-long black nationalist (I think she is 93 years old now). Her father was a Garveyite and she actually waved goodbye to Garvey from the New Orleans docks when he was deported in 1927. Her house on Fig street was flooded and she barely escaped. She is living in a FEMA trailer and is in poor health and the formaldehyde in the trailers is aggravating her problem. She owns a house and the got some federal funds to renovate but not enough to finish and she has no furniture or appliances and I think needs some funds for getting the utilities turned on. She has no income other than social security and has been poor since I first met her 25 years ago. Given that she is the "Queen Mother" of black nationalism in the Deep South, I suggest that you "adopt" her as a project for the same nationalist networked you developed during the rescue and recovery. I am going to talk to her and her son (who has power of attorney) in the next week to see what she needs in terms of rehab work on the house and financial aid for appliances and furniture. You could come down here and meet her and her family if you want. I think it would be a great project and it's sad to see someone who has given decades to the cause fall on hard times without help. You can reach me at 504-220-4609 any time.
